What does self-care even mean???

I've mentioned this a few times in recent posts, but what does self-care really mean? It goes beyond spa days and massages. Taking care of yourself includes your physical, emotional, and mental well-being. Maintaining balance, resilience, and well-being is about understanding and recognizing what you need and staying what I call "resourced." Here are some elements to consider:

Physical Self-Care: - Sleep: I list this one first because it is essential. Establish BOTH a morning and evening routine and stick to it. - Nutrition: Don't eat crap, ok? Eat whole foods and drink water all day long. That's it! - Exercise: My personal favorite! Find something you enjoy, whether walking, yoga, cycling, or dancing, and make it a part of your routine. - Regular Health Check-ups: Annual physical exams, dental cleanings, and routine screenings can prevent potential issues. Some of you know that I avoided this for a time and made a big issue for myself that resulted in 5 months off of work to handle it!

Emotional Self-Care: - Boundaries: Learn to say 'no.' For all you people pleasers out there (like me!), it's essential to set clear boundaries to protect your emotional energy. - Journaling: Writing down your feelings offers clarity and release. I'm going to link a journal below that I love. - Connection: Surround yourself with positive, uplifting individuals who support and care for you. It's okay to evaluate who you let into your life. - Therapy: Consider seeking professional help! There is no shame in it!

Mental Self-Care: - Mindfulness and Meditation: Engage in practices that help you stay present and reduce stress. Five minutes a day! That's it! - Continuous Learning: Challenge your brain by picking up a new hobby or learning a new skill. I'm learning all about AI. What about you? - Digital Detox: Limit screen time and disconnect from social media regularly to prevent information overload. The Huberman Lab has GREAT (and I do mean GREAT) information about what scrolling does to your motivation. Check it out! https://www.hubermanlab.com/episode/how-to-increase-motivation-and-drive - Reading: Dive into a good book. Simple!

Spiritual Self-Care: - Reflection: Spend time introspecting about life, goals, and purpose. - Nature: Connect with the outdoors. I'm a mountain girl and love hiking, but a simple walk in the park or beach can be deeply rejuvenating! - Gratitude Practices: Count your blessings daily. There is science behind the practice of getting into deep gratitude any time you feel down. It WILL shift your perspective to a more positive one.
